District Heating and Cooling
District Heating and Cooling
District heating and cooling networks are often coupled with shallow geothermal systems. In this context, those networks are the supply lines between the heat energy sources, such as collector systems, and the energy sinks of the respective consumers. They are installed at a similar depth as the geothermal collectors themselves. The system with low distribution losses is considered an additional collector element and makes it possible to supply a large number of consumers in a neighbourhood with renewable energy. District heating and cooling networks are therefore regarded as a key technology for increasing the efficiency and attractiveness of geothermal energy for heating and cooling of different building types. The working group Shallow Geothermal Energy determines the ground parameters required for installation, comparable to horizontal systems.
